Fox Coverts
Scout Campsite

Hinckley District Scouts’ campsite at Fox Coverts has provided camping opportunities for young people since 1956. We are located between the villages of Kirkby Mallory and Newbold Verdon in the East Midlands county of Leicestershire and close to good road links. The site covers nearly 16 acres of woodland, with campsite areas to suit both group camps and patrol camps including secluded sites in wooded glades, which are ideal for backwoods camping and constructing bivouacs.

Fox Coverts provides several activities suitable for all age groups and there are additional off-site activities available nearby. The site also makes a good base for hiking activities and there are several public footpaths near the campsite.

We welcome bookings from Scout and Guide groups, schools, Duke of Edinburgh, and other recognised youth groups.

Facilities

Camping and Accommodation

12 individual campsites around the site with natural tree borders, each named after a Hinckley District Group. The Wilson building has a main hall, kitchen, and separate leaders’ room.

Campsite shop

Our shop sells a range of sweets and confectionery along with badges and other souvenirs. Opening times are by arrangement with the Duty Warden.

Shower & Toilet Block

Hot and cold running water and token operated showers (50p from the duty Warden). Separate male, female, and unisex accessible facilities.

Activities

At Fox Coverts we have several on site activities including archery, climbing and air rifle shooting; pedal go karts, rubber band guns, Nerf guns, indoor crossbows and frisbee “golf”. We have a back-woods cooking area and large campfire “circle”.

Campfire Circle

Set in a natural depression it is not really a circle but provides a fire area – with plenty of space for skits and yarns – and tiered seating. Just right for joining with others for a traditional campfire.

Camp Chapel

Where we remember former Scouting friends. A small, consecrated woodland glade. Suitable for a traditional Scouts’ Own or just for a period of quiet contemplation.
